First opened in1953 as the as the Tainan MAAG School it was the first  US military sponsored school in Tainan, Taiwan, Republic of China. In 1955 the firswas constructed on the school site familiar to most students and name was changed to the Tainan American Elementary School. In 1960 the school name was changed to Jonathan M. Wanwright High t building School. JMWHS was closed in 1976.
